E-commerce · Smart Home & Security
A sensor is a small plastic box and the buyer cannot see why it is worth buying.
A sensor has no screen, no sound and nothing to look at. The buyer is buying a result, such as a message when the water tank overflows or a light that comes on when the bathroom door opens. A listing that shows the box and a specification list leaves the buyer to imagine the use.
A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.
In one paragraph
Smart home sensors are the small devices that detect a door opening, motion, a water leak, smoke, a change in temperature or humidity, and send an alert to a phone or trigger another device. GullySales works on the explanation these products need, the pairing question (hub or no hub), and the way a first sensor leads to a set across the house.
The other trouble is the hub. A sensor that works only with a particular hub is a different purchase from one that works alone.
Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for smart home & security differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.
Who it is for
This is written for you if you sell sensors online.
- Brands selling door, motion and water-leak sensors on marketplaces
- Sellers of temperature and humidity sensors for homes, kitchens and cold storage
- Importers of hub-dependent Zigbee and similar sensors who need to explain them
- Smart-home dealers selling sensor packs with a hub for flats
Not for
It is not the right fit if.
- A seller who cannot say which hub or app a sensor needs
- Anyone selling smoke or gas sensors without clear information on what they are rated for and how they are tested
How buyers choose
What decides the sale of sensors.
Which kind of sensor
Door and window contact, motion, water leak, smoke, temperature and humidity. The buyer searches for the problem they have, such as a leaking tank, and then looks for the type of sensor.
Hub, bridge or direct Wi-Fi
Whether the sensor needs its own hub, works through a smart speaker or links straight to the router. This decides the real cost of the first purchase.
Battery type and life
A coin cell or AAA, the stated life, and what warning the app gives before it dies. A sensor in a hard-to-reach place has to be changed rarely.
What happens when it triggers
A phone alert, a siren, a light that turns on, or a chime on another device. A buyer wants to know if it notifies when out of the house.
Where sales are lost
What usually goes wrong when you sell sensors online.
In the words sellers use on the first call.
“Buyers order the sensor without the hub it needs”
The product page never said it was hub-only. The parcel arrives, nothing pairs, and the review calls it a scam.
“Nobody searches for our product by name”
People type 'how to know when the tank overflows' and not 'Zigbee leak sensor'. The listing is written for the second search.
“The sensor sells once and the buyer never adds another”
A water-leak sensor in the kitchen could go under the washing machine and in the bathroom. No message suggests it.
The scope
The work we would propose for sensors.
Measured on purchases, conversion rate, cost to win a customer, average order value and repeat purchases. Anything here that needs a platform or tool we have not used with you is confirmed in the audit before it goes in the scope.
- Pages for the problem, not the partPages for how people ask: know when the water tank is full, alert when the front door opens, check if the baby's room is too hot.
- Hub requirement stated firstA hub, bridge or direct Wi-Fi tag on the title, image and cart, with the matching hub offered next to it.
- Starter packs by useA pack for an empty flat, a kitchen, or an elderly parent living alone, with a hub where one is needed.
- Scene videosA thirty-second film of each use: the door opens, the phone buzzes, the lamp comes on.
Smoke and gas sensor wording
Listing text on safety devices written with your adviser, because what a detector is certified to do is not for us to state.
What we do
What you get for sensors.
Each deliverable and what it is there to change.
A sensor chooser by problem
A short page that starts from a problem like a leak, an open door or a hot room and ends at the sensor and hub that fit.
A hub compatibility table
Each sensor against the hubs, apps and assistants it works with, linked from every listing.
A placement guide
Where to stick a door sensor, how high to mount a motion sensor and where a leak sensor goes, with photographs.
A battery change card
A card in the box and a page showing how to open the case and what cell to buy, so a dead battery is not a return.
How the result is measured
- Purchases
- Conversion rate
- Average order value
- Customer acquisition cost
- Return rate
- Sensor and hub orders placed together
Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.
How it works
From your first message to the first report.
No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.
First
Free audit call
90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.
After the call
Written, scored report
Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.
Before work starts
Baseline recorded
Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.
After the baseline
The first fix goes live
Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.
As agreed
Report against the baseline
What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.
At renewal
Renew on the numbers
The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.
What we need from you
What to have ready before the audit call.
None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.
- Your sensor range and which items need a hub
- Pairing complaints and returns
- The scenes buyers describe when they ask what to buy
- Packs you already sell
- App reviews and the notifications users complain about
Selling in India and abroad
Selling sensors beyond your own market.
Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.
Radio standards and approvals
Zigbee, Z-Wave and Wi-Fi sensors operate on frequencies that are regulated per country. A sensor approved for India may need other approvals elsewhere, and your adviser confirms this.
Detector rules
Smoke and gas alarms are regulated products abroad, with certification marks buyers expect. Selling them overseas is checked with your adviser before any listing.

Why us
Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.
Marketing and sales, as one job
Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.
The person on the first call does the work
No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.
A baseline before anything starts
Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.
The fee in writing, split three ways
Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.
No guarantees we cannot keep
The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
One office, and we say so
Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.
