Interior design firms · Referral marketing

One architect's introduction is worth more than a month of ads.

Referral for an interior design firm comes from two places: past clients in the same tower, and the architects, builders and contractors already on site. GullySales builds the ask at handover, the material a partner can forward, and the record of who is actually sending work.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For interior design firms

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The neighbour two floors up is your warmest enquiry”

A finished flat is seen by everybody who visits it. A card left with the client, plus permission to photograph the flat, turns one project in a tower into three.

  • “Architects refer the firm that makes them look good”

A designer who holds the timeline and answers the contractor's calls gets introduced again. One who creates a problem on site does not, however good the drawings were.

  • “Decide your position on commission and say it out loud”

Builders and contractors in this trade expect a cut more often than firms admit. Paying one is a commercial choice, but a payment the client discovers later costs more than the project was worth.

What we do

What we deliver for interior design firms.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A referral ask written into handover

One request for one name, made on the day the client walks through the finished home, by the person they dealt with.

Result: Every finished project produces an introduction request.

  2. Material an architect can forward without editing

A short profile carrying the project types, the budget bands and a few photographs, sized to send in a single message.

Result: A partner can introduce you without writing anything.

  3. A tower-by-tower record of where you have worked

Projects logged by building and locality, so a new enquiry in the same tower can be shown a flat down the corridor.

Result: Work you have already done sells the next flat in the building.

  4. A stated position on commissions

What you will and will not pay a contractor or builder, agreed internally and answered the same way every time it is asked.

Result: Nobody in your team negotiates a private side arrangement.

  5. A thank-you the referrer notices

Something specific for the architect or client who sent a project, decided in advance instead of improvised afterwards.

Result: A referrer knows their introduction landed somewhere.

  6. Referral sources counted against signed projects

How many signed projects each partner and past client produced, read from the enquiry record.

Result: You can see which relationship deserves your time.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals reach a design studio

An interior firm is recommended at handover, in the tower it finished and on the sites of architects and builders.

The client on handover day
Tell the client you take a limited number of projects and that a friend's call is welcome. Leave a printed page with the scope you handle and where you work.
Neighbours in the same tower
A finished flat is the best showpiece. Ask the owner whether neighbours may visit with notice, and keep a list of towers and the units completed in each.
Architects
An architect needs a designer who respects his plan. Send a note on how you handle changes to his drawings, who signs off on services and what you do when a site query comes in.
Contractors and vendors
Carpenters, tile suppliers and lighting shops hear who is planning a home. Give each a card telling a homeowner how to reach you, and say which project types you want.
Source on enquiry and project
Mark the source on each enquiry and again on the signed project. Review sources against projects signed, not enquiries sent.
What never to do
Never use a client's photos or address in a referral message without asking. A home is private, and a client who finds hers shown unasked will not recommend you.

  • Boutique single-designer practices
  • Modular kitchen and furniture-focused design firms

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the work runs for interior design firms

  1. 1

    Assess

We look at how your portfolio signals budget, how quotes are followed up, your timeline track record, and how referrals are tracked.

  2. 2

    Fix the follow-up

A quote follow-up schedule and a simple process for booking a site visit without back-and-forth delay.

  3. 3

    Build the portfolio

Projects organised by type and budget band, with real client photos and a written brief and solution for each.

  4. 4

    Bring enquiries in

Local search, a well-organised Instagram and Pinterest presence, and referral relationships with architects and builders.

  5. 5

    Convert and retain

A clear site-visit-to-contract process, honest timeline communication, and a referral ask after a project's handover.

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should we pay a builder a commission for referrals?
It happens widely and the decision is yours. Whatever you settle on, keep it consistent and do not hide it from the client. The firms that get hurt are the ones where a client finds out about a payment nobody mentioned.
How do we ask a past client without it feeling like a sales call?
Ask once, at handover, for one name. A client who has just walked through a finished home will think of a cousin or a colleague. Asking a second time is what makes it feel like selling.
Can we use a past client's home photos in a message to a new client?
Only with her written permission, and without the address or her name unless she agrees. Offer a visit only when she says yes. If she says no, use photos from the work in progress or a render of a similar room, which carry no privacy risk.
A referred client asks to see the flat of the client who sent her. Is that fine?
Ask the past client first and offer a time that suits her, with the new client coming in on notice. If she declines, offer photographs she has approved. Do not promise a visit on her behalf, because a home is private.
How soon would we see more signed projects?
Fixing quote follow-up moves first, since the enquiries you already have are the easiest to recover. Ranking for a search such as 2BHK interior designer in your area, and building architect referrals, takes months.
Do we need to advertise?
Most firms gain first from a strong Instagram presence and local search. Advertising helps for a project type with spare design capacity.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
