Interior design firms · Sales strategy

Decide whether you sell to the homeowner, the builder or the architect.

A sales strategy for an interior design firm settles who you sell to and how the work reaches you: the homeowner who found you on Instagram, the builder handing over a whole block, or the architect who brings you in after the drawings. GullySales picks the route that suits your team and prices each one honestly.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

What sales strategy means

Sales strategy is deciding which customers to chase, through which channel and at what price, instead of every salesperson working their own way. GullySales sets this plan against your actual pipeline and the deals you have won and lost so far.

For interior design firms

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The builder route fills the calendar and sets your price”

A developer tie-up protects you from a dry quarter. He also fixes the rate, pays against handover stages, and asks for the same finish at a lower number on the next tower. Take it with your eyes open.

  • “An architect refers you after watching you on site”

That name comes from a site engineer or an architect who saw your carpenter arrive on the day he said he would. The route is won on execution, not on a portfolio deck.

  • “Direct homeowners cost the most to win and pay the most”

A couple doing their own 3BHK compares three firms, takes six weeks and asks for three goes at the kitchen. The margin is the best you will see, so the strategy has to say how many you can carry at once.

  • “Turnkey and design-only are two different businesses”

Charging a design fee and leaving execution to the client's contractor is a lighter sale with a smaller number against it. Taking the turnkey contract means buying plywood and managing a mason, and the strategy names which one you are selling.

What we do

What we deliver for interior design firms.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A written choice of which route leads

A short statement naming the route that carries the year, homeowner direct, builder, architect referral or turnkey contract, and what the others are allowed to take.

Result: The team stops answering every enquiry with the same pitch.

  2. A rate and payment position for each route

What you charge and how you are paid on a builder handover against a direct residential project, including retention, set down before the next negotiation.

Result: You stop finding out the margin after the plywood is bought.

  3. An approach list of developers who build at your finish

The builders within reach whose handover level matches the work you actually do, with the person who signs and what he needs to see first.

Result: Outreach goes to developers who buy what you make.

  4. A routine for the architects who already know you

How you stay in front of architects and site engineers between referrals, including what you send them once a site is finished.

Result: The referral route gets worked instead of being left to luck.

  5. A capacity rule for direct residential work

A stated limit on how many direct homeowner projects the team runs at once, and what happens to the next enquiry after that.

Result: You stop signing a project nobody is free to run.

  6. A check of where signed projects actually came from

Signed work traced back to its route and set against the route you said would lead, using the baseline recorded at the audit.

Result: You find out the plan was wrong while you can still change it.

How the result is measured

  • Win rate
  • Average deal size
  • Pipeline coverage against target

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Choices a sales strategy makes

Make these calls from your enquiry log, signed projects and site diary.

Which budget band to sell first
Sort signed projects by budget band and type: a 2BHK refresh, a 3BHK full home, a retail fit-out. Lead with the band where you signed at full fee and handed over on time, not the one with the biggest photographs.
How an enquiry reaches a signed contract
Write the steps: first call, site visit, measurement, design fee, mood board, 3D views, BOQ, contract. Check recent clients who went quiet and mark the step where they stopped.
At which step the design fee is charged
Look at past projects where free concepts went nowhere, and note the step those clients dropped at. Ask for the design fee before that step, so drawings are only made for clients who have committed.
Who sells and who runs the site
Keep the designer who wins the client in the design meetings, and give a site supervisor the carpenter, the mason and the client's site calls. If your diary shows the principal on site most days, selling has stopped.
Which enquiries to turn down
Decline projects below the budget band you can execute at your finish, or in localities too far for your supervisor to visit often. Refer them on politely; an overstretched site costs you a reference.

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the work runs for interior design firms

  1. 1

    Assess

We look at how your portfolio signals budget, how quotes are followed up, your timeline track record, and how referrals are tracked.

  2. 2

    Fix the follow-up

A quote follow-up schedule and a simple process for booking a site visit without back-and-forth delay.

  3. 3

    Build the portfolio

Projects organised by type and budget band, with real client photos and a written brief and solution for each.

  4. 4

    Bring enquiries in

Local search, a well-organised Instagram and Pinterest presence, and referral relationships with architects and builders.

  5. 5

    Convert and retain

A clear site-visit-to-contract process, honest timeline communication, and a referral ask after a project's handover.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should a small studio take builder work at all?
Take it if a dry quarter would hurt more than the rate does. Two towers of standard finishes keep a team paid while direct enquiries build, as long as you have priced the retention and the delay.
How is this different from our marketing plan?
The marketing plan decides which channel brings the enquiries in. This decides who you are selling to and on what terms, which is what makes an enquiry worth having at all.
Clients want the principal designer. How do I sell without being in every meeting?
Be in the first meeting and the design presentation, where clients decide whether they trust your eye. Let a senior designer run measurement, revisions and material selection, and introduce them in that first meeting as the person the client will work with. Clients accept the handover more easily after meeting them early.
Everyone wants the home ready before Diwali. How do we plan for that rush?
Check last year's signed projects against the handover dates clients asked for. Set a last date for signing any project that must finish before the festival, and say it on the first call. Projects signed after that date get an honest handover date after the festival, so the site team is not running every job late.
How soon would we see more signed projects?
Fixing quote follow-up moves first, since the enquiries you already have are the easiest to recover. Ranking for a search such as 2BHK interior designer in your area, and building architect referrals, takes months.
Do we need to advertise?
Most firms gain first from a strong Instagram presence and local search. Advertising helps for a project type with spare design capacity.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
