Environmental testing and consulting firms · Referral marketing

Be the lab other consultants and plants send their own clients to.

Referral marketing for an environmental firm means building a steady flow of introductions from the people who meet your buyers first, such as consultants, equipment makers and clients. GullySales identifies those sources, makes it easy for them to refer, and records every introduction.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For environmental testing and consulting firms

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Your best referrers do not know what you test”

An ETP contractor or safety consultant meets plants every week. If they cannot say in one line what you are accredited for, they cannot pass work on.

  • “A referral arrives and nobody thanks the source”

A past client sends a colleague. The job is done, but the person who sent it never hears anything and does not do it again.

  • “The EHS manager who moves takes you with him”

When he joins a new company, he is the best introduction you will get, but nobody noted where he went.

What we do

What we deliver for environmental testing and consulting firms.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A list of referral sources, ranked by access

ETP and STP contractors, safety and ISO consultants, architects, builders' project managers, association officers and past clients, with the contact and the history.

Result: You know whom to call first.

  2. A one-page note for referrers

What you test, what you do not, where you serve, and the name and number to ask for, so a referrer can describe you in a sentence.

Result: Introductions reach the right person.

  3. A thank-you routine that follows each introduction

A call or message to the referrer when the enquiry arrives and again when the job closes, within the rules of their profession.

Result: Referrers feel remembered, so they refer again.

  4. A record of who sent whom

A source field on every new client, and a note when an introduction came from a person, so credit goes to the right one.

Result: You can see which relationships bring work.

  5. A watch on clients who change companies

A routine to note where EHS and plant heads move, and a courteous message when they join a new unit.

Result: One good client opens another plant.

  6. A reciprocal arrangement with allied firms

A short understanding with firms in related areas, so each sends the other work outside its own scope.

Result: Work you cannot take goes to someone who will pass back what they cannot.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals work in this trade

Who sends you work, what prompts them and how to thank them without crossing a line.

Past clients and their EHS heads
A plant that got a report accepted without trouble will tell a neighbour. Ask for an introduction after the job closes, and note the name of the plant it goes to.
ETP, STP and equipment contractors
They are in the plant before the lab is called. Give them a one-page note on what you test, and a named person they can ring with a technical question.
Safety, ISO and environmental consultants
They need a lab for the samples and often refer the testing. Agree who deals with the client and keep the client informed, so nobody is surprised by an invoice.
Architects, builders and project managers
They need monitoring and approvals at project start. Share a short project note they can hand to a promoter, and follow up on any introduction at once.
Association officers in industrial estates
They are asked for lab names at every compliance seminar. Offer to speak or to give a sample-collection guide, and do not push your own rate list.
What never to do
Never offer money, gifts or favours to any official or inspector, or promise a result in return for an introduction. Keep any thank-you to a small, open gesture, and check rules in each referrer's own profession.

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is reply time, a follow-up sequence, the page buyers land on or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the referral marketing work runs

  1. 1

Understand your margin and customer relationship

We agree what reward is genuinely sustainable and appropriate for your business and customer type.

  2. 2

    Audit existing informal referrals

We check how much word of mouth already happens, to size expectations for the formal programme realistically.

  3. 3

    Design the offer and mechanism

A specific reward and an easy sharing method are built and tested.

  4. 4

    Implement and promote

The programme is surfaced at the right moments in your customer journey.

  5. 5

    Measure and adjust

We track referrals and conversions, adjusting the reward or promotion if uptake is low.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

#257, 3rd floor, Sri Nanjundeshwara Complex, Nagarbhavi 8th Block, Outer Ring Road. How we work.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Can we pay consultants a commission for referring work?
Think twice. Some professions restrict fee-sharing and clients may feel misled if the advice was paid for. A written referral understanding with each firm, checked against its own rules, is safer than ad hoc commissions.
How do we track who sent which plant?
Ask on the scoping call, 'How did you hear of us?', and write the name in a source field. When a plant says a consultant's name, ring that consultant to say thanks and note it.
How often can we ask a client for introductions?
When a job has gone well and the client has said so, ask once, plainly. Asking at every contact becomes a nuisance. Keep in touch for the next due date, and the introduction usually follows by itself.
A referral wants work outside our scope. What should we say?
Say so, and name who might do it if you know a reliable firm. The referrer sees that you are straight, which is worth more than one small job. Note the referral anyway, so it counts.
We are a small lab in an industrial estate. Do we need all this?
You need the first part: a clear page for each test and a fast, written reply. A lab with one good enquiry route and a follow-up habit can out-sell a larger one that answers late. We will say what to leave alone.
Can we say our report is accepted by the pollution control board?
Only if you can show it, and only in general terms. Board requirements differ by state and change over time, so state your accreditation and recognition exactly as on your certificate and tell buyers to confirm current requirements with their own board.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
