Ask each person what they are working towards, then show the plan that gets there.

Someone messages on WhatsApp asking the fee. One institute replies with a fee list. Another asks which test, which country and by when. The second reply is the start of a plan, and the person answers it. The first reply is one more price in a comparison, and the person stops writing.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

In one paragraph

Language training and study abroad providers help people prepare for IELTS and PTE, speak English or a foreign language, choose a country and a course, or decide a career. GullySales looks at how an enquirer's goal is asked and recorded, what the first session shows them, and who follows up afterwards.

Six trades sit here. IELTS and PTE centres sell to people with an exam date and a visa or course file. Spoken English and foreign language institutes sell a skill, starting at a level the learner has to be placed in. Study abroad consultants and career counsellors sell advice, and a parent sits in on the decision. What they share is a goal that differs from one person to the next, and a first session, whether a demo class, mock, seminar or counselling, that decides the sale.

6 kinds of business

Each kind of business in language training & study abroad sells a little differently.

Open the page closest to yours for how its buyers choose and what we would fix first.

IELTS training centres

The student has a visa or course deadline, so a batch that starts too late loses the booking. Asking the deadline first and offering timings that suit working students is how the demo class becomes a seat.

PTE training centres

Buyers have already chosen a country and compare centres on fee alone unless the centre looks different from every IELTS institute, and mock test sign-ups need a plan that leads to a batch.

Spoken English institutes

The enquirer is shy and afraid of being judged, and says they will join next month. A free demo class and a batch level explained kindly are what bring a first visit.

Foreign language institutes

Learners come for a reason: a job abroad, a university place or a company posting. The batch is built around that reason, the level and the exam date, and each level should lead into the next.

Study abroad consultants

Parents entrust a large sum and a child's future, so a seminar sign-up needs a second call and every counselling session needs a next step. Rules of destination countries change and need care.

Career counselling centres

Families seek advice before choosing a stream or a college, and the centre can be mistaken for a college agent, so the fee and its independence need explaining before the assessment.

What they share

What usually goes wrong across language training & study abroad.

Whichever of these you run, you will probably recognise most of them.

  • “Every enquirer gets the same reply”

Someone asks the fee and gets a fee list. We have not asked which score, language, country or stream they want, or by when, so the reply fits nobody in particular.

  • “The first session ends without a next step”

A demo class, mock test, seminar, trial lesson or counselling session finishes and the person leaves with nothing dated. Nobody noted what they asked, so the call afterwards is generic.

  • “People say they will decide later, and we let them”

'I will join next month', 'I will ask my father', 'I will see after results'. We say fine. No day is set for a call, and by then someone else has asked the right question.

  • “Our listing looks like the next one's”

Another institute or consultant is a short walk away and teaches the same exam or offers the same counselling. Our page says experienced and best, and does not say which test, level or country we are good at, or who takes the session.

  • “Scores, offers and assessments are personal, so our proof is thin”

A score report, an offer letter or a career assessment belongs to the person. We cannot show it without consent, and we have not asked, so parents and students find nothing to check.

  • “People who got what they came for leave without a word”

A student who reached the score, a learner who moved up a level and a family that found the right course for their child are our best referrals. Nobody asks them for a review or an introduction.

Where to start

What to fix first in language training & study abroad.

In the order we would look at them. Your own enquiry records may change the order, and we would say so.

  • Open the first reply with a question about the goal and the date: which test or language, which country or stream, and by when. Record the answer against the person's name.
  • Give each test, language, level and counselling service its own page with who takes it, timings, fee and what the first session involves.
  • End every first session with a dated next step, such as a batch that starts on a named day, a second counselling call or an assessment slot, and write down who will make it.
  • Keep one record of who enquired, the goal and date they gave and what was said at the first session, so every later call picks up from it.
  • Ask people who finish for a review, and ask permission before using any score, offer letter or name.
  • Say plainly what you are, what the fee covers and where your advice stops. Rules for overseas education consultants differ by state and by destination, so check with your own adviser.

FAQ

Questions about language training & study abroad.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Can we publish our students' scores and offers?
Only with each student's written consent, and only what the student can show you. Rules on education advertising and on consultants differ by state and by body, so check with your own adviser. A named trainer or counsellor and an honest description of the first session give a buyer more to check than a banner of scores.
What should we ask first when someone enquires?
Ask what they are working towards and by when: the test and target score, the language and its reason, the country and intake, or the stream and the decision date. Answer from that, and note it, so the next call picks up where this one stopped.
Is a free demo class, mock test or seminar worth running?
Yes, wherever someone needs to see the teacher or adviser before paying. It works only with a list of who came and a dated next step for each. Without that it fills a room and sends nobody to a batch or a second meeting.
How do we stand out when another institute teaches the same thing?
Name what your page can say that theirs does not: the test and score bands you coach, the languages and levels, the countries and courses you advise on, and the people who take each session. Put it in the listing, the page and the first reply.
What do we say to someone who wants to think about it?
Ask what they are weighing, answer that one thing and agree a date for the next call or message. If they say no, leave it there. A person who has decided against you is not a lead for another follow-up.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on what is being changed and how many of the people who matter see it. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever the work touches, such as your profiles, your website or your accounts, and time with the people who can answer our questions.
