Manufacturing · Machining, metal and components

The machines are running, but the next job still depends on who happens to phone.

CNC machining and precision engineering shops usually sell by being the one that was called last time. A purchase engineer needs a bracket, a shaft or a manifold, remembers a supplier, and rings. When that supplier is full or slow, the drawing goes to the next name on the list, and you were never on it because nobody could find out what your shop does.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

In one paragraph

CNC machining and precision engineering is the making of metal parts to a drawing, by turning, milling, grinding and eroding, for other manufacturers. GullySales works on how a shop is found by the buyers who send drawings, how a request for quotation is answered, and how a first order becomes a repeat order.

The website says "precision engineering" and lists a few machines. The buyer wants to know whether you hold a tolerance on a hardened steel part, whether you take a batch of fifty or only five thousand, and whether you will answer the quotation request before their deadline. A shop that cannot answer those on a page loses the enquiry before anyone speaks.

The work splits by process, and each process has a different buyer. A turning shop sells to people who want round parts in volume. A tool room sells to people who need a die or a mould made once and made right. A 5-axis shop sells to a handful of engineers with a hard geometry problem. This page covers the segment, and the pages under it cover each process on its own terms.

Who it is for

This is written for you if CNC machining & precision engineering is what you make or sell.

  • Job-work shops running CNC lathes and machining centres for several customers at once
  • Precision component makers supplying automotive, hydraulic, aerospace or medical customers on a repeat drawing
  • Tool rooms making dies, moulds, jigs and fixtures for other factories
  • Owners who rely on two or three large customers and know that is risky
  • Shops with spare machine hours and no steady way to fill them
  • Second-generation owners taking a workshop from word of mouth to proper enquiry handling

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A shop that is fully booked for the year by existing customers and does not want new drawings
  • A workshop that cannot take a new customer's first-article requirements, because the pages would bring enquiries you cannot serve
  • Anyone hoping a website will replace the plant visit; the buyer still comes to see the shop

How buyers choose

What decides who wins in CNC machining & precision engineering.

  1. The drawing arrives first

The enquiry is a PDF or a STEP file, often with a quantity and a delivery date. Whoever reads it and replies with a sensible question has already looked more capable than the shop that sends a rate by return.

  2. Quotes are compared on three

A purchase team collects three quotations and lines them up on price, lead time and what each shop said it could hold. The cheapest rarely wins when one shop asked about the material and the other did not.

  3. A sample order before a real one

New suppliers usually get a small first lot or a first-article inspection. The buyer is testing the dimensional report, the packing and whether you delivered on the day you said.

  4. Vendor registration and a plant visit

Larger buyers want the company registered as an approved vendor and may send someone to look at the machines, the measuring room and the stores. Photographs of these on your site save a trip that would otherwise fail.

Where orders are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell CNC machining & precision engineering.

In the words owners use on the first call.

  • “We quote and never hear back”

Quotations go out as a PDF with a rate and nobody follows up. The buyer has three other quotes and no reason to remember yours.

  • “Our website says nothing about what we hold”

Machines are listed but not tolerances, materials, batch sizes or the parts already made. The buyer cannot tell whether to send the drawing.

  • “Most of our work comes from two customers”

One drawing change or one vendor consolidation at the customer and a quarter of the machines stand idle. Nobody has time to find the next customer while the current ones are busy.

  • “We get enquiries we cannot quote”

Calls come in for work the shop does not do or at volumes it cannot meet. The owner spends an afternoon on each and learns nothing from it.

What we do

What you get for CNC machining & precision engineering.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A capability sheet by process, material and tolerance band

A one-page document and a web page that tells the buyer what you hold, written from your shop floor and not from a template. It changes the first question from whether you can do it to when.

  2. A quotation request form that asks for the drawing

Collects the drawing, the material, the quantity and the delivery date in one go, so the first reply is a quotation and not a list of questions.

  3. A follow-up routine for quotations gone quiet

Who calls, on what basis and what is written down afterwards. It turns the unanswered quote into a recorded outcome.

  4. Plant and process photographs on the site

The machines, the measuring room, the stores and a finished part with its inspection sheet. A buyer deciding whether to visit sees most of what the visit would show.

  5. A target list for the sectors you want more of

Named companies and roles, so outreach goes to people who buy machined parts and not to a general list.

How the result is measured

  • Qualified enquiries by source
  • Quotation requests received
  • Follow-up on each quotation sent
  • Trial orders won
  • Repeat orders from the same customer
  • Drawings received per enquiry

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What the work involves for CNC machining & precision engineering

  1. 1

    Read the shop

We go through your machines, materials, customers and the last quotations you sent, and note which drawings you win and which you lose.

  2. 2

    Decide who to reach

We agree which processes and sectors to push, and which to leave alone, from what your machines are best suited to.

  3. 3

    Write the capability

Process pages, the capability sheet, the enquiry form and the photographs are produced from what the shop floor can show.

  4. 4

    Set up the reply

Quotation replies and follow-up are written down and given to a named person, with each enquiry recorded.

  5. 5

    Go to the buyers

Search, listings and outreach to the target list begin, and each enquiry is tied back to its source.

  6. 6

    Read the results and adjust

Enquiries, quotations and orders are compared with the baseline taken at the start, and the work changes where the numbers say so.

What we need from you

What to have ready before we talk.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your website link and any IndiaMART or TradeIndia listing
  • The last ten or twenty quotations you sent and what happened to each
  • A list of your machines with the size they take and the materials you run
  • Photographs of the shop, the measuring room and finished parts
  • Certificates you hold and the customers you are approved with
  • A note on the work you want more of and the work you want less of

Export and new regions

Selling CNC machining & precision engineering beyond your home market.

Where you sell decides standards, documents, payment terms and freight. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new region we start from your own enquiries, your existing buyers and the directories you already use.

  1. Which overseas buyers fit a job-work shop

Importers and OEMs that source machined parts from India are the usual route, as are overseas contract manufacturers who need a second source. The first step is your own export enquiries and the buyers you already ship to.

  2. What an overseas buyer asks for

Material certificates, inspection reports, packing and freight terms, and a sample first. Payment terms are settled before the sample goes. These are listed on the page so the buyer sees them before asking.

  3. Language and time zones

A quote that comes back during the buyer's working day, in clear English with the drawing number quoted back, is read. Which trade directories and fairs you already use is worked out with you.

FAQ

Questions about selling CNC machining & precision engineering.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

We do job work for other factories. Can marketing help a shop like ours?
Yes, but the work is different from marketing a product. The buyer is a purchase engineer with a drawing, so the effort goes into capability pages, quotation replies and follow-up. Your existing customers are the first place to look, because their purchase teams know other companies that need parts.
Do I need a new website to get machining enquiries?
Not always. If the current site loads and lists what you make, the better first step is to rewrite its pages around processes, materials and parts. A rebuild is proposed only when the site cannot carry that content.
Is IndiaMART enough for a CNC shop?
It brings enquiries, many of them from people who send a message to six shops at once. It works better when the listing says what you hold and someone replies with a question about the drawing. Your own pages and your own list of target buyers then carry the work the marketplace does not.
We get a lot of enquiries we cannot do. How do we stop that?
By stating on the page what you do not take: sizes, materials, minimum batches. The form then asks the questions that sort the enquiry before it reaches you, so you spend time on drawings you can quote.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on what is being changed and how many of the people who matter see it. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever the work touches, such as your profiles, your website or your accounts, and time with the people who can answer our questions.

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

Engagement options

Ways to work with us.

Pick the size of commitment that fits. Every option starts with your brief and a conversation.

  1. Option 1

    The conversation on its own

A call after you send your brief. It says honestly whether you need outside help, and many fixes are ones your own team can make.

  2. Option 2

    One fix, scoped

Start with the fix that matters most, such as reply time or follow-up. The fee is in writing before anything starts.

  3. Option 3

We run the work, report against the baseline, and you renew on the numbers. The term and the reporting are agreed in writing first.

  4. Option 4

Guidance for your own team or agency

We plan, brief and check the work of your in-house team or current agency, instead of replacing them.
