Personal care brands · Branding

Make a shopper reach for your jar when five others look the same.

Branding for a personal care brand is the name, the pack and the promise that make a shopper pick one soap or serum from a crowded shelf and trust it on her skin. GullySales writes the positioning, tests the pack at shelf distance and as a small marketplace picture, and sets down the claims the brand is allowed to make.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

What branding means

Branding is what a customer remembers about your business beyond the product, including your name, colours, tone of voice and what you are known for locally. GullySales sets or corrects this once and applies it consistently across your website, signage and adverts so the business looks like one company everywhere.

For personal care brands

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The pack looks like the nearest leader's”

A green tube with a leaf on it beside the leader's green tube with a leaf on it sends the shopper to the one she already knows.

  • “Natural is on every pack, so it tells her nothing”

Natural, herbal and pure appear on a hundred labels. None of them says why hers should be yours.

  • “A name that suggests a medicine”

A name that hints at a cure, or sits close to a registered mark, is spotted after the cartons have been printed.

What we do

What we deliver for personal care brands.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A positioning sentence your team can say

Who the product is for, the moment it wins and why a shopper picks it over the nearest alternative, written in one sentence.

Result: Pack, post and salesman make the same case.

  2. The pack tested at shelf distance

The label checked at arm's length on a lit chemist's shelf, beside the brands it sits next to, and as a small marketplace picture with the ingredient panel still readable.

Result: Your pack is picked out by someone who was not looking for it.

  3. A claims list for the brand

The words your test reports support and the words the brand will not use, agreed with your regulatory adviser and kept on one page.

Result: Every writer and designer works to the same list.

  4. Name checks before printing

A trademark search, the name said aloud in each language of your markets and a check that it does not suggest a medicine, written up for your attorney.

Result: You do not reprint every carton after a notice.

  5. A brand kit for printers and makers

Logo files, colours and carton layouts sent to your printer, your distributors and your contract manufacturer, with one approved supplier list.

Result: The pack looks the same in every town.

  6. Recognition read on the shelf

Searches for the brand name, retailers who ask for it by name and listings carrying the right pack pictures, set against the starting figures.

Result: You see whether the brand is known beyond your first city.

How the result is measured

  • Recognition in customer feedback
  • Consistency across channels
  • Repeat enquiries by name

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Positioning in one sentence

Fill in this sentence before the next carton goes to print, and test every pack and post against it.

Who it is for
Name a person and a need, not an age group: the mother with a baby in a humid city, the man whose stubble itches, the family buying a wedding gift pack. A brand for everyone is picked by nobody.
What it is, in her words
Hair oil, bathing bar, face wash, beard oil. Use the word she says at the counter before any coined name. A shopper who cannot say what it is cannot ask for it.
Why you over the nearest alternative
Pick one difference that holds in every shop: a named ingredient left out, a bigger pack at the same price, a fragrance your region likes. Say it once and say it plainly.
Proof you can point to
A test report you hold, the licence details printed on the pack, the years you have made the product. Never borrow a certificate or a doctor's name you have not been given in writing.
Words to avoid
Cure, treat, repair, whitening, miracle and completely safe. Regulators and platforms check cosmetic claims, and the rules differ by product type, so check yours with your adviser.

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the work runs for personal care brands

  1. 1

    Assess

We look at where the product sells, which outlets reorder, what the reviews say about skin and hair reactions, and how trade enquiries are answered.

  2. 2

    Check the claims

Every line on the pack, the listing and the ads is read against your licence and test reports, and doubtful words go to your adviser before anything is printed.

  3. 3

Build the shelf and the listing

Product pages, offer sheets and listings written from the label, so a shopper and a chemist both find what they came to check.

  4. 4

Open channels one at a time

Chemists, a new district, salons or a marketplace, added in the order your stock, cash and reorder records can carry.

  5. 5

    Track the second purchase

Reorder tracking, review replies and seasonal packs based on who bought again, not on who followed the page.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should we change our brand name?
Only if it blocks you: it implies a medicine, sits too close to a registered mark, or cannot be said in your main markets. A weak name with sales behind it is cheaper to keep than to replace. Run a trademark search with an attorney before you decide.
Do we need a new logo or a new positioning?
Positioning first. A new logo on the same vague promise changes nothing at the shelf. Settle who the product is for and why it is different, then check whether the current logo and pack carry that.
Can we use a name in a local language?
Yes, if it is easy to say, spell and search in that language, and does not mean something unwelcome in another state where you sell. Say it aloud to retailers in each market and check the mark before you print.
Are there limits on what a cosmetic or Ayurvedic brand can call itself?
Yes. Names and words that suggest a medicine, a cure or an approval can be challenged, and Ayurvedic products have their own licensing rules. The rules differ by product and change, so check the name with your regulatory adviser before it goes on a carton.
Do we need a licence before we market a soap or a cream?
Cosmetics and Ayurvedic products are both regulated, with rules on licences, labels and claims that differ by product and change over time. Check yours with a regulatory consultant or your contract manufacturer before you print a pack or write a listing. We ask for the licence and test reports at the start, so no copy goes out that the file cannot back.
Should we sell on Nykaa and Amazon before we go to chemists?
Start where your buyer already searches. A hair oil for older buyers moves through chemists and kirana shops, and a serum for younger buyers moves on marketplaces. Pick one channel, let reviews or reorders build, then add the next. Opening everywhere together splits your stock and your attention.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
