Vocational training institutes · Referral marketing

Ask the trained student who now works, and the employer who hired them, to send the next one.

Referral marketing for a vocational training institute is asking past students, employers and local tradespeople to send the next trainee, and recording who sent whom. GullySales sets up the ask, the tracking and a thank-you that stays within the rules for education.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For vocational training institutes

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Past students are the best advertisement and nobody keeps in touch”

A student who now fits air conditioners knows several boys wanting a skill. The centre has his old number and has never called.

  • “The employer who hired two trainees is never asked”

An electrical contractor who took two of your trainees hears from young men looking for a course all the time, and does not know your centre wants them.

  • “Cash rewards bring names that never attend”

Paying per referral invites a list of cousins who never come, and a student who refers a friend for a reward and then drops out leaves both of you worse off.

What we do

What we deliver for vocational training institutes.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A referral source list from the admission register

Every admission traced to a person or shop, so you see who has already sent students.

Result: You know your best referrers by name.

  2. An alumni list kept with permission

Past students' numbers, trades and employers, with a note that they agreed to be contacted.

Result: A referral ask goes to people who expect it.

  3. A referral card with a code

A small card or message giving each referrer a code, so the register records who sent each student.

Result: Every referral is traced, not guessed.

  4. Outreach to employers and contractors

A one-page note for contractors, salons, hotels and service centres on what the batch can do, and an offer to recommend the centre to trainees they cannot hire.

Result: Employers know where to send a young person who wants training.

  5. Shop and counter introductions

Cards for the electrical wholesaler, the hardware shop, the tailoring supplier and the salon product seller.

Result: Tradesmen refer the juniors who stand at their counters.

  6. A thank-you within the rules

A thank-you note, a mention on the page with permission or a small gift that the centre's own advice says is fine, never a deal that rewards a name.

Result: Referrers feel noticed, and the centre stays clear of a rule.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals work in this trade

Who sends students to a training institute, and how to ask, record and thank them.

Past students now at work
Call once they have settled into work to ask how it is going. When they volunteer something good, ask whether they know someone who wants the skill, and record their name.
Parents of current students
At the first instalment, ask the parent whether a relative or neighbour might want a course. Give the parent a card with the next batch date and a code.
Contractors, salon owners and service-centre heads
These people hire the trained hands. Ask them to send the young people they cannot take on, and ask them to say which skills they look for so the course covers them.
Counter staff at trade shops
The wholesaler and the hardware shop see juniors every day. Leave a counter card with a code and tell the owner how many came from the shop, so the relationship runs both ways.
School teachers and PU lecturers
A teacher who knows a student cannot go to college may suggest a short course. Offer a talk and a course sheet. Do not pay a teacher or a counsellor to send names.
What never to do
Never pay cash per name, promise a job for a referral or make up referral stories. Rules on rewards in education differ, so take advice before offering a fee discount.

Who it is for

This is written for these vocational training institutes.

  • Computer and IT skill institutes teaching DCA, hardware and networking, and Tally with GST
  • Electrician, plumbing, AC and refrigeration, and solar installer training centres
  • Mobile phone repair and CCTV installation institutes
  • Fashion designing, tailoring and beauty academies
  • Healthcare skill centres for nursing assistants and lab and X-ray technicians
  • Workshop trades such as welding, CNC and VMC operation and two-wheeler mechanics
  • Hospitality, retail and security-service training centres
  • Training partners running government-funded or CSR-funded batches

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the work runs for vocational training institutes

  1. 1

    Audit the last batch cycle

We trace where last cycle's students came from, how quickly the desk replied, how many visited and how many paid, using your admission register, call log and fee receipts.

  2. 2

Fix the register and the reply

One enquiry record for every source, a fee sheet every counsellor uses, and saved WhatsApp replies for batch dates, certificate and instalments.

  3. 3

Rebuild the course and certificate pages

A page per course with eligibility, tools, fee and the issuing body, and a page on tie-ups written from what employers have agreed.

  4. 4

Bring students in before the batch starts

Search, Business Profile, social and local outreach set up ahead of each course's season, with budget moved towards whatever produces workshop visits.

  5. 5

Follow through to the second instalment

Each enquiry followed to a paid seat or a clear no, and each new student followed through the first fortnight, measured against the baseline.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should we give a fee discount to a student who refers a friend?
Take advice first, because rules on discounts and inducements in education differ and change. If you offer one, give it only after the friend has joined and paid, write the terms down, and keep it the same for everyone.
How do we track who sent whom?
Ask at the walk-in desk and on every call who recommended the centre, and write the name in the register. A referral card with a code makes it easier. Check each name against the register to avoid giving credit twice.
Can we ask the employer who hired our trainee to recommend us?
Yes, politely, once the employer has seen the work. Ask whether they would say so to young people they cannot hire. Do not offer money or a placement favour in return, and do not quote them without their written agreement.
A referred friend dropped out in the first week. Does the referrer still get the thank-you?
Decide the rule before it happens. A fair one is that the thank-you follows the friend's first instalment and course attendance. Tell the referrer plainly so there is no argument, and record the case against the register.
Can we promise a job after the course?
No. Say what the centre does: interview preparation, employers who have visited and the trainees they took, each named only with their agreement. Rules on placement claims differ by regulator and state and change, so check with a legal adviser before printing a line about jobs.
Our certificate is our own, not a government one. Do we have to hide that?
Do not hide it. Say whose certificate it is, what was assessed and which employers have accepted it. Families trust a plain statement more than a vague word like certified, and a claim that the certificate carries more weight than it does costs you at the first employer interview.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
