Hospitals · Referral marketing
One sentence from a GP sends more admissions than a year of hoardings.
Referral marketing for a hospital is the relationship with the family doctors, nursing homes, diagnostic centres and consultants who send patients, and with the families who recommend you. Paying for referrals is restricted in medical practice. GullySales builds the referrer list and the contact routine, and keeps the arrangement inside what your compliance adviser accepts.
Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means
Referral marketing in a regulated practice is being the one a physician, a colleague or a former patient names, without being paid to, because paying for a referral is restricted in most of these professions. GullySales builds the ask into the moment a patient is satisfied and into the note that goes back to the referring doctor, and it never involves a fee.
Last updated 5 Oct 2026. Rules for this trade differ by state and professional body, and they change. We describe restrictions in general terms, so check the current position with your own council or adviser before you publish anything.
For hospitals
Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.
“Paying for a referral is restricted, and the rules are not yours to read alone”
Professional conduct rules restrict a doctor accepting payment for sending a patient, and hospitals have been pulled up over arrangements of that kind. Ask your medical director or legal adviser what is permitted where you practise before money enters any discussion.
“The referrer wants the patient back, with a note”
A GP who refers a case and never hears what happened has effectively lost that patient to you. A short discharge summary and the patient sent back for follow-up is worth more to most referring doctors than anything else on offer.
“A diagnostic centre refers differently from a GP”
A lab or imaging centre sees a scan that needs a surgeon and can send that patient the same afternoon. That relationship runs on a number that gets answered and a slot they can actually book, not on a visit once a year.
What we do
What we deliver for hospitals.
Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.
A referrer list with a person against each name
Every GP, nursing home, diagnostic centre and consultant who has sent a patient, with the department they refer to and the date of the last contact.
Result: The hospital knows who has gone quiet.
A number referrers get answered on
A direct line or WhatsApp number for referring doctors, staffed by somebody who can confirm a slot without putting them in a queue.
Result: A referral is not lost to a busy switchboard.
The loop closed with a summary back
A note on what was found and what was done, returned to the referrer with the patient's consent, as a standing part of discharge.
Result: The doctor sees what happened to their patient.
A visit routine for the referral team
Who visits which clinics and how often, with a purpose for each call rather than a box of sweets at Diwali.
Result: The relationship is worked instead of assumed.
Referrals counted by doctor and department
Every enquiry marked with who sent it and totalled by department, against the baseline recorded before the work starts.
Result: You know which relationships carry which ward.
A written line on what the hospital does not offer
The position on payments, agreed with your medical director and legal adviser, so nobody in the team improvises an arrangement on a clinic visit.
Result: The referral programme cannot embarrass the hospital.
How the result is measured
- Referrals received
- Referral conversion rate
- Cost per referred customer
Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.
How referrals reach a hospital
A hospital gets patients from family doctors, nursing homes and diagnostic centres, and keeps them by closing the loop.
- Family doctors and GPs
- A GP sends a patient when he cannot manage a condition locally. Give each a named person and a direct line at the hospital, and a short list of the departments you cover.
- Small nursing homes and day-care centres
- A smaller centre sends cases it cannot handle, such as intensive care or complex surgery. Agree how the case is transferred, who speaks to the family, and how the patient returns for follow-up.
- Diagnostic centres and labs
- A lab sees abnormal reports before any doctor does. Share the consultant names and how to book a visit after a report, and neither take nor give anything for the introduction.
- Employers and health camps
- A company HR head chooses the hospital for employee health checks. Offer a facility visit and a clear list of services, with the insurers and TPAs you work with.
- Source by doctor and department
- Record the referring doctor and the department at registration. Read the sheet before the referral team plans its visits.
- What never to do
- Never pay or reward a doctor, lab or agent for patient referrals. Medical councils restrict this in general, so ask your compliance adviser what any arrangement may include.
Who it is for
This is written for these hospitals.
- Multi-speciality hospitals
- Single-speciality hospitals, maternity, orthopaedic or eye
- Nursing homes
- Day-care surgery centres
- Corporate hospital chains with several branches
- Diagnostic-centre-led hospitals
- Hospitals attached to medical colleges
- Government-empanelled private hospitals
Not for
It is not the right fit if.
- You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
- You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
- You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.
How it works
From your first message to the first report.
No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.
First
Your brief
You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.
After the brief
A conversation and a written scope
We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.
Before work starts
Baseline recorded
Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.
After the baseline
The first fix goes live
The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is reply time, a follow-up sequence, the page buyers land on or the handover between marketing and sales.
As agreed
Report against the baseline
What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.
At renewal
Renew on the numbers
The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.
How the referral marketing work runs
- 1
Understand your margin and customer relationship
We agree what reward is genuinely sustainable and appropriate for your business and customer type.
- 2
Audit existing informal referrals
We check how much word of mouth already happens, to size expectations for the formal programme realistically.
- 3
Design the offer and mechanism
A specific reward and an easy sharing method are built and tested.
- 4
Implement and promote
The programme is surfaced at the right moments in your customer journey.
- 5
Measure and adjust
We track referrals and conversions, adjusting the reward or promotion if uptake is low.
Proof
What happened when owners fixed this.
Real clients, the work we did, and the result as it was recorded. Where no number was recorded, none is claimed.

Why us
Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.
Marketing and sales, as one job
Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.
The person on the first call does the work
No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.
A baseline before anything starts
Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.
The fee in writing, split three ways
Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.
No guarantees we cannot keep
The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
